Part of the satisfaction of a project like this, is occasionally finding somewhere you can give something back and make a difference. The Big Brother Mouse project is a literacy programme in Laos, trying to get literacy levels up in a country where, traditionally, no-one reads. We heard about before we came and we have spent some of our time in Luang Prabang supporting their work. This is easier than it sounds. All it involves is turning up and speaking English to the students to help them improve their language skills. Luckily even I am capable of a passable English conversation for a few minutes and it has been really great to meet some of the local young people and hear about their life.
